Tips to Be Debt Free, Part 2

2009Dec19

This post is a continuation from the one that began yesterday.

2) Make a very detailed budget for all your monthly expenses. Be sure to have enough so you are able to make at least the minimum payments on all of your debt.

3) From the lists above pick the smallest debt as your target. Pay as much towards this debt as you can without cutting payments on your other debts.

Once you manage to pay off this debt completely, take that money and apply it to the next smallest debt. Keep doing this again and again until your debt is all paid off. Doing this will allow you to pay off all your debt, even if you can’t get extra money coming in.

This method works, it just takes discipline. You’ll have to make sacrifices if you want to be debt free. That means making a reasonable budget and sticking to it.

But if you stay disciplined, and keep at it, you will eventually find yourself out of debt, which will bring you peace of mind and will make all the sacrifices seem worthwhile.

Yours in working to keep debt free,

Cultivate Strong Habits

With our fifth and last tip (for this go-round at least), we pose taking time for a healthy self-examination. Consider such things like the following:

How is your work ethic? Do you just put your time in, collect your paycheck, and go home?

Are you a hard worker?Or do you just do enough to “get by”?

Are you punctual? Do you take time off excessively? Are you dependable?

Are you trustworthy? Do you gossip?

How’s your attitude? More importantly…how would others (say your boss or co-workers) describe your attitude?

You’ll need to develop a solid work ethic, good time-management skills, solid people skills, and other professional habits, in order to enjoy success, particularly during tough economic times.

This step and the four we’ve posted in the days preceding this one, will transform you into the kind of person who can succeed during a recession.

Start making these changes today, and refuse to be a victim during these tough economic times.

You And Your Business In A Recession

2009Jan26

When there is a drought, most farmers pray for rain.

Or contact their friendly neighborhood Indian to show them how to do a rain dance.

But really now, will that make rain pour like cats and dogs? In most circumstances, unfortunately, that’s a “no”–so you just have to wait until it rains.

And in a recession, you just have to weather the storm and do all you can to keep your business afloat.

There are a few things you can do, though, to help keep yourself in business. Such as…

Consider changing the way you do business
If you’re faced with cutting your budget, perhaps you’ll need to adjust your marketing methods. Maybe some of the budget you usually set aside for advertising can be redirected to retraining your staff. Especially since customer service is paramount to establishing yourself away from your competitors.

How much you take for yourself in return for your efforts
As the owner of the business, perhaps you’ll be willing to take a lesser cut in order to keep the business viable. Or, you can lower the profit margins for a brief time or until they are once again in the normal range.

Making even just a few adjustments will help you continue to meet the needs of your customer. You might also consider offering sales and discounts in order to draw your current customers and prospects to you. To keep them coming back.

In the event you have shareholders, they’ll be glad you’ve kept them up-to-date about the circumstances with which you’re faced. This will give them an opportunity to ask questions and to even be a part of the decisions with which you’re faced.

Before you know it, the recession will be a thing of the past and you can get back to a thriving business.

We’ve found quite a few resources about surviving a recession, and have collected them here.

Benefits Of A Recession

2009Jan10

Would you believe that there are benefits to a recession? Yes there are and by knowing what they are, you can take advantage of them.

First, when the economy is in recession, you will soon get a fat check from the Internal Revenue Service or IRS amounting to $300 or $1,200. Why does the government issue it? This is the government’s way to help the economy. If you have not received yours yet, you will probably get it next year.
